Our History
Hello, my name is Adam Gobel. Back on May 26, 2024 I bought my first package of bees from a beekeeper in Springfield, Illinois. I brought the package of bees home where I had set up a small 10 frame hive at the back of my parents farm. Not really knowing what I was doing I attempted to light my smoker, put on my bee suit, and put my hive tool in my bee suit pocket. After I thought I had everything ready I opened my package of bees for the first time and I still remember how nervous I was holding that first frame of bees. After working with this hive for a while I learned how calming it was to work with the bees and that they weren't aggressive like I had always been told. I then started researching different things to do with bees and absolutely fell in love with them. I always dreamed about running my own business as most people in my family did, so I decided to combine my love of beekeeping and wanting to run my own business. This is how "stings and wings" started. Not long after deciding to turn my hobby into a business I decided to get into different programs to help me grow my business. I was in high school at the time when I decided to expand my business and this gave me the ability to join the Cass County CEO program. Through the CEO program they were able to teach me how to create a business plan for my honey bee business and get me set up with multiple opportunists to grow my business. While I was working on my business in CEO class I realized that using my honey bee business I should start my dream of running an animal rescue and named it "The Second Chance Animal Sanctuary."
